About the Author

Author Ben Watson graduated from the Arizona Automotive Institute in 1972 and began a varied career as an automotive and truck technician. In the mid-1980s, he became a contract instructor serving local, state and federal motor vehicle fleet organizations. Starting in 1985 Watson has worked as an independent contract instructor, written a dozen books on automotive technology, held an assistant professorship at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, served as a training manager for two truck companies and still found time to keep abreast of the latest technology and techniques related to repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and their systems.

The book has some annoying typos and the pages listed in the table of contents don't match the subject matter page location - not the author's doing. However, there is good practical information on component - sensor - actuator voltage specifications and other testing specifications that make this book a good handbook for diagnostics. The book explains the theory of operation of each component which guides understanding of performance expectations and outcomes. I recommend this book for shop reference material for quick look up of specs.

It would have been helpful if the "read me" sample of the book had a couple of pages of the actual trouble shooting so a person could judge if the book would be helpful to them.
