I am lucky enough to be in Alex Schimel's exam writing workshop at UM Law and everything he preaches in Law School Exams: A Guide to Better Grades is exactly what he teaches in his workshops. Why? Because it works. Law school exams are unlike any test I'd taken in undergraduate or high school. They have a different structure and you need to learn these strategies if you want to be successful in law school.Someone (thankfully) recommended the previous edition of this book to me when I started my 1L. Like this book, it's a really quick read, so I devoured it on a weekend. The strategies are simple but absolutely critical, I use his IRAHNC strategy on every exam question because it makes sure you maximize your points. The whole point of law school exams is analyzing the issues and then you need to present those issues in a way that your professor will understand. Alex has done the hard work of talking with many professors and synthesizing their criteria to develop an essay structure that is understandable, persuasive, and comprehensive. That sounds easy, but it's not - unless you follow Alex's methods in this book.
