This book makes an excellent reference to keep near by. These 3D creation applications are deep and convoluted so a reference manual is a must and this is a good one for 3DS Max. I suggest owning a copy and keeping it within reach. Although it is great for learning the application as well as a reference, I think there are better ones out there for learning, but this is the best reference I have seen for this application. If you want to learn 3DS Max, you can do it with this book; however, as I mentioned already, there are better options. I would recommend something other than a book for learning such as Digital Tutors or CG Cookie, but as a reference, there are no better. Get it!
This is the best book I have ever purchased about Max. The examples are clear and easy to follow. Difficult concepts are presented in a way that makes them easily understandable. I finished with a very solid understanding of all the many modifiers and techniques in Max 2014. I have most every book on the market for Max, and this one is by far the best. If you only buy one book on Max, make it this one.
Autodesk 3ds Max 2014 Bible was required for my class at school. The book is huge and covers everything! Pictures are in B&W, but are easily understandable. The 'Bible' books are always a great tool to have in your computer library.
This book has three "no good":1. The book started in chapter one with Autodesk 3ds Max 2014 "Default with Enhanced Menu". However, in later chapters the author switch ed between "Standard Menu" and "Enhanced Menu" without alerting readers.2. Not enough screenshots; a screenshot can save readers about 50 to 60 seconds of time to figure out what the author is talking about. Yet the author decided that it is better without more screnshots.3. Bad step-by-step instructions. The author's writing style is like this: "You can find X by pointing at W which is in V that is under U after you click T that you would see under S."Image you reading "Start the car engine instructions" like this: "Insert the key into ignition which is on steering column that is at the upper left section of the car interior, after you open the front left door and sit on the driver's seat."A technical book should be written with good time sequence of events. I think this book would better be categorized as a romance fiction.

Easy to follow. Has many answers to my unanswered questions in it. Great book, very useful. I would recommend it.
A little hard to understand at first and also overwhelming. However, once you familiarize yourself with the software and combine its data with other sources, this book is awesome. People have to realize that knowledge cannot be spoon-fed and people (including writers) err. Also, this book is not the end all for information on 3ds Max, but it most certainly can serve as a bridge for better understanding its components.
